office space || love burt home reno edition
we're moving forward with our office renovation!! whoooooooo.
everyone celebrate! happy dance!
everyone knows we've been working on our home for a while. we bought the house foreclosed. and i needs a lot of love. which really means it needs money.
we have crazy dream ideas and we take off on these huge renovation dream adventures.
and then we remember how difficult doing things on your own is. when you don't have a truck,
or tools, or bodies that can handle much physical labor before breaking and needing medical attention. haha, seriously tho. we're the perfect team in many ways. but in house renovation ways, we need someone to do it for us. that would be so nice. but expensive.
so, we take our time! and that time makes me feel very impatient.
i've spent a lot of time being unhappy with my house because i thought it had to be something different for people. when really, they don't care. they really don't. some people do care, but those people suck. so it's really OK.
probably the thing i love most is when ethan is proud of me. or impressed by me.
he's the most amazing human being on the earth. to make him proud is the best feeling ever.
or also, when i make him laugh. because he's the funniest person in the world, too.
i don't know how he does it.
but lately, impressing him with my spending zero dollars and budget shopping. so even with taking a huge road trip vacation, (our friends treated us a lot and we stayed in their homes for free. really, we know the most kind and generous people. we only paid for gas and some food. and one blanket e let me buy in arizona. bless).
we've been able to save and put aside funds to do some more work on the house. and one thing we do need, two offices.
yes, we love working together. yes, it's borderline gross how much we love being together without a break. but, we cannot work in the same office any.longer. we need separate office spaces. ethan needs dark, cold, quiet. i need bright, warm and adorable loudness.
he's pc. i'm mac. he likes to be quiet while he works. i like to blast gilmore girls or HGTV and loudly eat chips and all the snacks. AND talk. to cat, to him, to whoever will listen. or to no one. i just like to talk. he could not talk for 8 hours and be happy.
so, our home has technically three bedrooms. we were going to tear down a wall to make an open concept, larger living room/dining room/kitchen area. but then ethan was like "ya know, this could be your very own office" and then i was like "YES PLEASE". so we're doing that. really he was just trying to kick me out of this office. but i'm good with that.
it's easy to get carried away with what the office could house in it. i took notes and priced everything. and then scaled it way, way back. also, my brain does this adorable thing where it *thinks* more things can fit into a small area than it actually can. just darling.
so now that i have a realistic list of what i need in the office and where i can purchase that for a reasonable amount, it's been really fun. the room will take a couple of weeks. since i'm nuts and want white floors, ethan has to work hard to make sure they won't scuff. because our bedroom white floors are already a mess. oops. he's talking to smart floor people at stores and getting better ideas of what to do this time around.
b's office plans :
stool for desk
coffee table & end tables
couch and lounger (or maybe one or the other but i don't want to choose. because there's two)
work station (place to wrap packages, store albums and canvases, stationary, work stuff, etc)
rug (i'm mad about how much rugs cost)
blinds for windows
here's my inspiration! :
nothing has been purchased yet and i will shop around more, but this is the best i can find so far!
my beautiful, beautiful lounger. ahhhhhh. glorious.
this photo above and photo below are from walmart.com
together they would be around $350.
i personally love the lounger. for my office i also want it to be a space for me to relax. and write.
and be alone. it'll be different than the common room and a nice place to be out of the bedroom, even on my worst days. being stuck in a bedroom with pain is just crummy. so having a cozy spot to read by the window or just be would be super lovely.
but i'm trying to be practical, too. having friends over, they would need the couch space.
and it doubles as a futon and it's actually so comfy to sleep on. so it could be a guest bed of sorts if a friend needed to crash or we had people over. the lounger is just for me.
i think what i'll do is start with the couch.. or lounger..
okay, i'll start with the couch, and then save up to get the lounger soon.
the work station is the hardest thing on our list right now.
we found a fantastic buffet at one of my favorite stores in downtown danville.
but it's costly. it's gorgeous and truly antique and i can get it painted exactly how i want.
it'll be a feature piece for sure because it's massive and beautiful.
it has amazing drawers and so much storage. and a long table top where i can write thank yous and wrap up packages for clients.
but, it'll be nearly $300.
so my other option would be making something from IKEA or just hoping goodwill will have the perfect one as soon as i need it. i can't decide what would be best here.
what i'm going to do is get the office mostly done and then we'll see how much room we really have left and what would work best for my work needs.
all that's left are little things like blinds, which we have picked out from IKEA.
same as the bedroom. and will be the same in the living room.
and then decor. i've already decided not to spend any money on new decor. and ethan is happy about that decision. we've agreed we have enough "stuff" and so the only things we will actually need is hardware to put frames/decor up. i have a fantastic gift from my mama that is a camera poster. i try not to get too camera-y just because i'm a photographer doesn't mean i have to decorate my house with cameras. and so i haven't purchased many things like that. but i went birthday shopping with my mama last year and we found this awesome poster kiosk. immediately we both loved the camera one. now i can't wait to put it up on my wall!
i'm so excited to share all my office renovation with my readers!
i'll post photos of the renovation as we go. it's going to be fun to see what it really looks like and what we actually ended up purchasing.
i could share ethan's office with you, too. but that will be super boring.
i'll probably still share it. he's so easy and non materialistic. he's so good for me.
his will also mostly be techie gadgets. i love him so much.
